What To Do
Greenpoint (near the venue)
Nura
The best bread and dips to ever exist. Great drinks. Beautiful space. Kinda fancy, so make a reservation.
Capri Social
Spacious, great vibes, old ass Polish bartenders, cheap drinks. Great spot to post up. Cash only!
Chrissy’s Pizza
Buzzy new spot for pizza pies - probably will be a wait, but it's worth it. Plus the titular Chrissy yells in New York’s finest export, the best d-beat band of the past 20 years, Warthog.
The Palace
Cheap beer, tons of space, good music, pool, darts, and a solid burger. What more could you possibly ask for.
Peter Pan
Cheap, crazy delicious donuts. You can get a breakfast sandwich on a donut. Life is good.
Prospect Heights (where we live)
Sharlene’s
The best neighborhood dive and where we got engaged :) They make a mean Long Island. Terrific jukebox when it works. We got booted off the jukebox once for playing Raining Blood by Slayer too many times, but that’s on us.
Olde Brooklyn Bagel Shoppe
The best bagel in Brooklyn - fluffy and delicious. Great BEC or egg salad if that’s more your vibe. Know what you want when you get to the counter, a sense of urgency is key.
Washington Commons
This bar is literally on the street where we live. On top of that it’s got a great backyard and plenty of space inside while still feeling cozy.
Gold Star Beer / Coffee Window
A beer place that serves the best coffee in the entire world from 8am-12pm. Tons of local and delicious beers. Plus they have really good sandwiches and bar snacks served after 4pm. Something for everyone!
Antonio’s
A classic slice, a beautiful slice, one of our favorite slices in New York, AND it’s basically next to Sharlene’s. “The perfect combination”.
Prospect Park
Prospect Park really is the best park in New York - Central Park is for “investment bankers”. A huge, lovely, lush park that’s great for a walk or a run or a picnic.
Gertrude’s
Upscale interesting takes on Jewish food. Great date spot. Ask what their vodka of the day is, the house infused shots are delightful.
Brooklyn (the rest of it)
Material World (Bushwick)
The premier destination in the world for evil rock n roll records and tapes. A tremendous selection of esoteric black metal, death metal, dungeon synth, and hardcore, plus a smattering of normal style stuff. If you like shit that rips, this is a must.
Gnostic Tattoo (Bushwick)
Chill spot, cool about walk-ins. Have been tattooed here many times over the past 8 years and every time it’s been a great experience.
Win Son Bakery (Bushwick)
Trendy Taiwanese bakery that is absolutely worth the hype. Everything here rocks, so just order as many things as possible. Particularly recommend the fan tuan and the mochi donut.
Sey Coffee + Semkeh (Bushwick)
Epic one two punch on the same street - Semkeh is a great counter service spot for Lebanese food, and Sey is the best coffee roaster in New York (they supply the beans for the aforementioned Gold Star coffee window.)
L’Industrie (Williamsburg)
Another spot that is annoyingly hyped but worth it. Truly is the best slice of pizza you can get. They have some fancy options for slices, but get at least one straight cheese. It’s divine.
10ft Single by Stella Dallas (Williamsburg)
A vintage clothing store where you’re guaranteed to find whatever it is you’re looking for. The pants are actually hung according to size. The back of the store has some really great, although expensive, vintage. Plus, their sister store is right next door that sells furniture and stuff.
Nitehawk Cinema (Park Slope)
Dine-in theater with cinema themed food and bevs. Food is actually good and the movies are super well curated - you can catch a current blockbuster or a screening of an old movie on 35mm. There’s a location in Williamsburg as well.
The Commissioner (Park Slope)
Our local-ish sports bar where we watch the Bengals games #whodey. A beer shot for 10 bucks isn’t too shabby and there’s always a game on if that’s your thing.
Manhattan
12th St. Ale House
Lovely, chill spot for a beer. Bartenders are friendly and there’s almost always a booth open to post up at. Shockingly good jukebox.
Metrograph
Easily the sceniest movie theater in New York, but it also unequivocally rocks. The curation is amazing, every week they have a new set of interesting older movies screening on 35mm. The seats are horrendous and confounding, but it’s still worth it.
Toad Hall
A great chill bar in the otherwise chaotic area that is Soho. Pool table in the back, friendly bartenders, old school New Yorkers talking about where they were when we landed on the moon. Honestly, this bar just has joie de vivre.
Sly Fox
Deranged half-underground bar in the East Village with the city’s cheapest beer shot combo and the city’s angriest Ukranian bartenders. Best to avoid weekend nights so you don’t get stampeded by NYU students. Attached to the Ukranian East Village Restaurant which serves a mean pierogi.
Up Stairs
One room karaoke bar with TVs on every single wall where the mics are chaotically passed across the room to whoever is up to sing. The owner is seriously amazing - ask her about when she met Robert Pattison. Lauren made 9/11 first responders cry here with her rendition of I Will Always Love You by Whitney Houston.
